Mayor signs Complete Streets Policy!
As a big part of our efforts to curb reckless driving and support residents' voices for safer streets, NWSCDC has been highly engaged in the campaign for a Milwaukee Complete Streets policy for over a year. On Monday, October 29 we celebrated the passage of this new policy with Mayor Barrett and many other City officials and community groups!Check out the Urban Milwaukee article covering the signing ceremony. NWSCDC provided the posters, which we have used at community events over the last year. Our Safe Streets rallies and Promise Zone Bike Ride events in 2018 helped build awareness for this opportunity. Now that the policy is in place, we look forward to working with the City's Department of Public Works (DPW) and the Department of City Development (DCD) as we see opportunities to implement safety improvements. The benefits of safer streets are good for neighbors traveling to work, school, or play, and these improvements will also support economic development. Complete Streets can improve the vitality of commercial corridors by making the retail destinations more inviting, and promoting greater accessibility via walking, transit, biking, and driving.
