Nature Tech Announcement: NWSCDC Helping Create Green Jobs

ACFThe Northwest Side Community Development Corporation is pleased to announce that it has received a $765,827 grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Community Services as part of a loan package for Nature Tech, a start up manufacturer of high performance building products from recycled materials based on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side. NWSCDC will close on a $640,000 loan towards the $7.6 million start up of Nature Tech including the renovation of their manufacturing facility.

Nature Tech, located on Industrial Road, will introduce cellulose insulation manufactured from recycled newsprint.NT owns the patents for fire retarding technology that puts the Company in a uniquely advantageous position to bring “green technology” to the forefront of the insulation industry.

NT anticipates the creation of over 40 jobs over three years that will be made available for neighborhood workers, certified as eligible for Workforce Investment Act services provided locally by the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board. The NWSCDC will work with workforce training and placement agencies to ensure that job needy/eligible residents will receive jobs and services required to retain positions in the growing weatherization industry.

The grant marks the sixth consecutive year, and seventh in ten years, that the NWSCDChas helped finance catalytic Northwest Side projects. The NWSCDC has lent $4,135,000 to local projects including a Kohl’s Grocery Store, two Lena’s Grocery Stores, Phase Two of the construction of Midtown Center, the Milwaukee Technology Incubator Center at DRS Power and Controls Technology, Paradigm Sensors, and now Nature Tech. These businesses have created over 500 new jobs for low income Milwaukee residents since 2000.
