Ten Years of Job Creation in Milwaukee's Northwest Side

As we wrap up 2017 and look forward to our plans for 2018 and the future, NWSCDC has compiled the results of our job-creation work for the last ten years.  Through the Office of Community Services "Community Economic Development" Program (OCS CED) housed in the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, NWSCDC has assisted businesses to create 395 new jobs, with additional projects underway expected to create another 70 jobs in the coming years.These results reflect the work of many of our dedicated partners.  We have worked closely for many years with the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation and with Employ Milwaukee (formerly the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board) to make these projects even more impactful.  Financing partners help to arrange larger deals, which support more new jobs.  Workforce development partners like Employ Milwaukee and other groups help recruit neighborhood residents and low-income job seekers to fill these positions.  Nearly all of the positions created have included benefits like health insurance and retirement accounts, as well as training opportunities for advancement.As a requirement of the OCS CED program, over 75% of the positions created here have been filled by individuals who formerly had low incomes according to program criteria.  These new jobs create ladders of opportunity, making economic empowerment accessible to more community members.  With multiple projects near our office, just blocks from N 27th Street and W Capitol Drive, through the Good Hope Road jobs corridor and up to the Granville area, NWSCDC community investment is making a big impact.We are always searching our next project.  If you know of a business in Milwaukee's northwest side in need of financing to grow, let's talk!
