Little Free Library at Samuel Clemens School promotes reading

NWSCDC organizers Dani and Natalie and Community Development Specialist Sarah Bregant celebrated with the Samuel Clemens School and neighbors on September 21 at the ribbon-cutting for the Little Free Library.  Both Natalie and Dani worked with the school and volunteers to guide the project from start to finish, and Sarah secured a large donation of books.  Principal Dinkins at Samuel Clemens School emphasizes that "One of our primary goals is to instill a love of reading in our students by encouraging students to read nightly, on weekends and over extended breaks. Our students participate in Guided Reading and Accountable Independent Reading (G.R.A.I.R.) time daily to help enhance their reading skills and give them time to practice reading. We also host several Family Literacy Nights throughout the year where parents are given real tools they can use to foster reading foundation skills at home."This Little Free Library helps bring the focus on reading out into the community.  It's one of the many ways that Samuel Clemens School is an asset to the Lincoln Creek neighborhood at N 36th Street and W Hope Ave.
