Meet the Community Organizer for NSP Area 4, Raymond Monk

NSP Area 4, or the “United Community” neighborhood, is mostly bound by the rail corridor near Purdue St / Cornell St in the north, Highway 43 to the east, Locust St in the south, and the 30th Street Rail Corridor.

These historic blocks are home to approximately 30,445 residents living in 10,806 households. The majority of individuals in United Community are African-American (94%), with the total minority population reaching 98.5%. A significant percentage of the United Community population is comprised of children under the age of 18 (23%). Of the 7,220 families in the United Community area, 39% are unmarried families with their own children.
